9 ways you can practice witchcraft with your kids

Written by:  Leah Lansdown

Witchcraft isn’t something I feel that shouldn’t be pushed onto anyone. Its a practice of choose, and lets you choose a path that betters your life. When your kids see how much you’ve grown, and get a little bet of curious, or interested in what your doing. How do you explain, and teach them about what your learning without explaining too much? My little three your old wants to be hands on, and is so interested he gets upset when I don’t include him into my spell work. When he started to show interest I was worried I was teaching him too much, but now I feel like it has bonded me with my child in a way no one can understand. Here are the ways I started to teach him about my practice.

  1. Crystals

Crystals are a very safe, and easy way into introducing your child into witchcraft. Believe me when I say this my child loves to pick out crystals now that he wants. I started making a crystal collection for him as well. Under supervision of course. It brings him such happiness everyday to sort them, and cleanse them. I will sit with him light some incense, and he babbles on about them. One thing I told him was that crystals have energy, and they rely on us to clean them, protect them, and use them. He now picks a crystal for the day, and carries it around with him.

2. Sigils on his favorite stuffed animals. (Let him pick the sigil it would be more personal.)

I feel that sigils are one way to let my child now that I care about them, and letting them know he/she is safe. My child is scared of the dark like most kids are. One way we have helped him was making sigils. I made a few of them, and I let him choose the one he felt that he liked the most. I took some moon water lightly writing on the back of his stuffed dinosaur his sigil. Also a little bit on the side I made a protection spell jar, and showed him where I put it. I also cleansed his room with some incense of his choose. My child loves lavender, and it seems to calm him.

3. Make moon water with him

This is by far my favorite thing to do with my child. Moon water can be used for anything. For cleaning, tea in the morning, to draw sigils that your child can’t get into, for a bath, and spells that needed it. I love putting moon water into my child’s bath, and believe it or not there are essential oils that are kid friendly that you can rub onto them or put into there baths. (Be careful because not all oils are safe to ingest, and read about them before buying).

4. Let them pick incense

Letting them pick their favorite incense is very important, and lets them enjoy the smells. For example my child hates dragons blood incense he can’t stands it. When I let him pick he likes to choose fairy dust, full moon, lavender, and personally my favorite that I get from my local witchy store rose gold.

5. Include them into a few spells

When doing spells with kids remember they are still young. The first spell I did with my child was a protection spell. There are wonderful spells you can create with your child. Like I came up with good day spell jar. Using pink salt, lavender, rose petals, sun water, dried dandelion, and purple amethyst ( you can also use rose quartz if you don’t have purple amethyst). When doing this spell use protection, and burn some incense. When the spells done make sure to seal it with a yellow candle. I’d do this for them, so he doesn’t ouch the hot wax. Once its done they can put in a window seal.

6. Tarot cards for kids

My child was very interested in my tarot cards, and I couldn't help but get him some tarot cards as well. He loved looking at the pictures on the cards, and has oddly taken very good care of them. I bought his off of amazon, and haven't had any problems with them. (Just make sure to cleanse, and do a protection spell on them before getting them for your child) I have been trying to teach him how to do a three card spread, but for now he just loves to look at the pictures.

7. Books I recommend if they are still interested when older:

The Junior Witch's Handbook: A Kid's Guide to White Magic, Spells, and Rituals (The Junior Handbook…

Juniors Witchcraft Workbook: My Book of Spells and Magical Potions : A Personal Handbook to Write &…

The Magick Inside You: A Pagan Children's Story

8. Make a ritual with them

A ritual can be anything that is always like a tradition. If you like kitchen witchery than try making moon cookies, sun tea, or even dandelion cookies and lemonade. Make a night time ritual where you collect moon water, and read a nice book. Have fun and make a ritual that best suits you, and your child. Not only does it show your child you care, but it helps you to spend time with them.

9. Try setting up an alter with them

Now with an altar its very important in my witchcraft. Its my person space to practice, and grow in my path. When your child is ready teach them about your altar, and maybe set one up for them. My sons altar sits on a shelf right beside mine, so when he wants to go to his altar its always supervised. Start with there favorite crystals, add a few herbs in some jars, books they like about witchcraft, and maybe some runes/tarot cards. When you set up there space its something that they can bond with you over, and make sure to cleanse there space as well. Put up protections, and let them enjoy.
